Shelton K Lewis

December 15, 1943 — July 21, 2020

Shelton K. Lewis, 76, of Johnson City, left this earth for his Heavenly Home on Tuesday, July 21, 2020, with his wife and daughter at his side.

He was a native of Hampton, Tennessee, a son of the late Paul and Beulah Lewis.

Shelton graduated from Hampton High School in 1961, going on to serve his country in the U. S. Marine Corps in January of 1962. He was proud of his time with the military, and was even more proud of his granddaughter, Natalie, for following in his footsteps and taking her place with the Air Force.

He was blessed with a heart for service and mission work, going on extensive mission trips to places as far and widespread as South Africa, Nicaragua, Romania, Brazil, Jamaica, and numerous others. Though the majority of his mission work was a self-organized calling, he also served the Lord locally by conducting classes every Sunday at NHC for over 20 years and attending Southwestern Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, Shelton is preceded in death by two brothers, Paul E. Lewis Jr. and Randy Lewis Sr.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 53 years, Janie Corum Lewis; one daughter, Sarah Kendrick and her husband Andrew; two granddaughters, Natalie Foster and Katie Kendrick; two sisters, Rose Smith and Nadine Million; four brothers, John Lewis and his wife Peggy, Jim Lewis and his wife Susan, Pat Lewis and his wife Linda, and Wayne Lewis; as well as many more nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to the caring staff of Amedysis Hospice and Smokey Mountain Medical Equipment for their support throughout Shelton's illness.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Shelton's honor to The Parkinson's Foundation or to Southwestern Baptist Church.

A committal service will be held for Shelton K. Lewis at 11:00 AM on Monday, July 27, 2020, at the Mountain Home National Cemetery Annex, 215 Heroes Drive. Friends and Family are asked to gather at the cemetery by 10:50 AM. The VA is requiring that those attending wear appropriate face coverings and adhere to social distancing standards while on the property.
