Sherrill U. Williams

Sherrill Underwood Williams, 82, of Unicoi, TN passed away peacefully on August 17, 2015 following a brief illness. She was born in Gaston County, NC. In 1939, her family relocated to Johnson City, TN where her father transferred with Klopman Mills. She was a 1951 graduate of Science Hill High School. She studied at Stetson University prior to graduating from East Tennessee State University with a degree in English. She was a founding member of the Phi Mu sorority chapter at ETSU. Sherrill later moved to Unicoi County where her husband helped launch Nuclear Fuel Services, Inc. in Erwin, TN. She was a lifelong genealogist beginning her research as a child. In 1976, she co-founded the Callaway Family Association where she was the Genealogist. She also authored and co-authored several publications. On behalf of the foundation, she spent several summers in London, England researching numerous governmental archives and religious records sites transcribing Old World to English. Locally, she was a member of the Watauga Association of Genealogists and board member of the Unicoi County Centennial-Bicentennial Committee, which raised funds for construction of the existing courthouse. She was an avid fan of ETSU basketball listening to every game on the radio. Sherrill was a wonderful homemaker and enjoyed cooking. She was preceded in death by her husband, Sherman Williams; parents, Reuben Harwell Underwood and Mary Lou Edwards Underwood; and special aunt, Varra Underwood. She is survived by her children, Nancy Carrillo and Jose? Carrillo, Gainesville, GA, James Michael Williams and Vickie, Marietta, GA, Alan and Steven Williams, Unicoi, TN, and Mary Risk and John, Tega Cay, SC; and grandchildren, Joseph, Jessica and Natalie Carrillo, Gainesville, GA, Jennifer Voica and Jordan, Woodstock, GA, and John Wyatt Risk, Tega Cay, SC. Visitation will be held from 3 pm until 5 pm Saturday, August 22, 2015 in the Morris-Baker Funeral Home. The family would like to thank Mountain States Health Alliance hospital and hospice as well as Hospice Care of South Carolina for their dedicated staff and compassionate care.
