Sherry Lynn Jones, 67, of Johnson City, passed away Tuesday, August 21, 2018, at her residence. She was born in Kingsport, daughter of the late Paul Bentley and Iris Moore Koone. Sherry devoted her life to nursing, beginning classes as soon as she was out of highschool. She graduated ETSU as an RN, taking care of Washington County for more than forty years. She became the first woman to be named an officer of the Johnson City Rescue Squad in 1985, when she was appointed 2nd lieutenant personnel. She was a lifelong member of this organization. In her younger days, she enjoyed bowling and playing softball. Sherry also had an unbridled passion for the Atlanta Braves, and traveled far to see them play. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of twenty-seven years, James ?Doc' Jones, as well as her stepfather, George Koone. Survivors include: two siblings, Susan Riplow and her husband Paul, and Mike Bentley; two nieces, Cherisa Buck and her husband Jason, and Amber Manis; one nephew, Josh Smith; Several great nieces and nephews, Kalei, Skyler, Brody, Keegan, Zayden, Brycen, and Alina; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. A committal service will be held on Saturday, August 25, 2018 at 1:00 PM at Happy Valley Memorial Park. The family would like to acknowledge and give thanks to all the professional healthcare providers of the Johnson City Medical Center, Agape, Lakebridge, and the Washington County EMS for the attention and care Sherry received over the past several months of her life. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Washington County EMS, or to the Washington County-Johnson City Animal Shelter, 3411 Roan Street, Johnson City, TN, 37601.
