Mr. Stanley J. 'Red'? Brown, 85, 147 Greenlee Road, Johnson City passed away Thursday July 29, 2010 in the Tennessee State Veterans Home, Murfreesboro, Tn. Mr. Brown was a native and lifelong resident of Johnson City. He was the son of the late Samuel and Mildred Rush Brown. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Parilee L. 'Cricket'? Brown and his brother Robert 'Bob'? Brown. Mr. Brown was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII serving in Japan as a guard of the Imperial Mint. He was a member of the Watagua Masonic Lodge. He was instrumental in raising funds for the building of the Jericho Shrine Temple. Mr. Brown was a member of the Sinking Creek Baptist Church where he served as deacon. He played a part in the planning and building of the Family Life Center at Sinking Creek Baptist Church. Mr. Brown was a former employee of Tennessee Motors and Griffith Motors as a salesman. Survivors include: two daughters, Linda Pierce and her husband Randal of Maryville and Kathy Jones and her husband Kenny of Murfreesboro; one sister, Betty Kitts of Bristol; six grandchildren, Brian, Anthony and Leslie Pierce and Nikolaus, Jordan and Lucas Jones; two great grandchildren, Andrew and Christopher Pierce; several nieces and nephews. The family would like to send a special thank you to the staff at TSVH for the wonderful care given to Mr. Brown. The funeral service for Mr. Stanley J. 'Red'? Brown will be conducted at 6 PM Sunday August 1, 2010 in the Morris-Baker South Chapel following Masonic rites. Rev. Reece Harris will officiate. The graveside committal service will be conducted at 1 PM Monday in the Mountain Home National Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be: Grandsons, Tony Young, Joe Carr and Chris Coulter. Minister, family and friends are requested to meet at the funeral home by 12:30 PM Monday to go in procession. The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 PM Sunday prior to the service. In lieu of flowers the family request that memorial contributions be made to the Tennessee State Veterans Home Family Counsel, P.O. Box 10299, Murfreesboro, Tn. 37129 or the Arthritis Foundation.
