Stanley Joe Godsey

May 26, 1936 — January 8, 2014

Mr. Stanley Joe Godsey, age 77, of Gray, passed away Wednesday, January 8, 2014 in the Johnson City Medical Center. Mr. Godsey was a Johnson City native and the son of the late Ralph Walker Godsey and Lucy Mae Ricker Godsey. In addition to his parents, two sisters, Charlotte Bailey and Lillian Isabel also preceded him in death. Stanley graduated from Science Hill High School in Johnson City. He served in the US Army as an intelligence agent for four years. Stanley worked at Holston Defense Corporation in Kingsport for 32 years before retiring. He was of the Christian faith. Survivors include: his beloved wife of 54 years, Rachel Curtis Godsey; one daughter, Cindy Whittemore and her husband Roland; one son, Dale Godsey and his wife Diane; two grandchildren, Justin Whittemore and his wife Cheryl, and Jamie Perry and her husband Brandon; one great grandchild, Lilly Mae Whittemore; and several nieces and nephews. The family of Mr. Stanley Joe Godsey will receive friends from 1 to 2 PM Saturday, January 11, 2014 in the Morris-Baker South Chapel. The funeral service will be conducted at 2 PM Saturday in the South Chapel. Roland Whittemore and Brandon Perry, Ministers will officiate. The committal service will follow in the Monte Vista Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. The VFW Post # 4933 and the Tennessee National Guard will accord military honors.
