Stephen Frank Salyer

Stephen Frank Salyer, Jr., 71, passed away on Friday, November 16, 2012 in the Johnson City Medical Center. He was born in Carter County, Tennessee, a son of the late Stephen Frank Salyer, Sr., and Nora Belle Garland Salyer. Mr. Salyer was a veteran having served in the United States Army. During his time of service, he received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal and the Army Commendation Medal. Mr. Salyer was a loyal member of Green Mountain Free Will Baptist Church and retired with 29 years of service from the VA Medical Center having worked in human resource. He loved watching golf and racing, and he had a passion for antique cars. He was a kind person who loved his Lord and his Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, James Salyer. He is survived by the love of his life, Imogene Hodge, of Elizabethton; one brother, Jason Salyer and wife Liza, of North Carolina; three sisters, Betty Breidinger, of North Carolina, his twin sister Barbara Charles and husband Edwin, of Johnson City and Nora Mae Boone, of Johnson City; and several nieces and nephews. The funeral service for Mr. Stephen Frank Salyer, Jr. will be held Sunday, November 18, 2012 at 7:00pm in the Morris Baker Funeral Home North Chapel with Rev. Danny Blevins and Rev. Jason Salyer officiating. The family will receive friends Sunday, November 18, 2012 from 5:00pm until 7:00pm in the Morris Baker Funeral Home North Chapel or any other time at the home of Imogene Hodge, 181 Sciota Road, Elizabethton, TN. Graveside services will be held Tuesday, November 20, 2012 at 11:00am in the Mountain Home National Cemetery with military honors being rendered by the Boone Dam VFW Post #4933 and the TN Army National Guard. Funeral procession will leave the funeral home Tuesday morning at 10:30am. Pallbearers will be Mark Arnett, Todd Arnett, Rob Boone, Jason Salyer, III., Don Hembree, Dean Bowling, Jerry Cox, Jeff Lyons and Zack Phillips. Honorary pallbearers will be Green Mountain Free Will Baptist Church. Morris-Baker Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 2001 Oakland Avenue, Johnson City, is serving the Salyer family. (423)282-1521
