Steven H. Rebmann, 70, of Johnson City, died on Tuesday, May 17, 2016 at his residence, following a courageous battle with Alzheimer?s Disease. He was the son of the late Donald and Virginia Rebmann, both of Johnson City. Steve, by his own admission, spent his career ?mending broken parts.' He was an extraordinary machinist who was able to fabricate any part or repair any machine. He loved to fix and build things and to learn how things worked. He built his own home by reading ?how-to' books and put his skill into action, along with his superb business sense, in his own machine shop, which he ran for forty years. He was a veteran of the US Navy, Machinery Repairman 2nd Class Petty Officer, having served on the USS Jason during the Vietnam War. As one who truly loved his neighbors, Steve also befriended the downtrodden and cared deeply for those he loved. He watched over his little sister, Judy, during their years growing up. He cared for his father until his passing. He helped his mother raise his niece, Roxanne; and then also cared for his mother in his home until her passing. All of these things he did as a matter of fact, not only for love?s sake, but because it was the ?right thing to do'. Steve had a servant?s heart, and was a member of Munsey Memorial United Methodist Church, where he was active in Sunday school and the Men?s Prayer Group. Previously, he had been a member of the Johnson City Alliance Church, where he served as treasurer for many years, and Our Savior Lutheran Church, where he served as a youth leader. He was active in his community, establishing a Christian Coalition chapter in Northeast Tennessee, in which he was responsible for developing and distributing voters? guides with survey results for the state elections, and was instrumental in preventing the adoption of income tax legislation in the State of Tennessee while working with Tennessee Conservative Union. Steve was a bachelor until the age of 56, when he met the love of his life, Helen, with whom he shared his life for the past fourteen years. He was both Uncle Steve and Dad to Roxanne L. Rebmann and ?Pop-pop' to Isabella Beard. In addition to his parents and grandparents, Steve is preceded in death by his brother, Leonard Rebmann. He is survived by his wife, Helen; daughter/niece, Roxanne; granddaughter, Isabella Beard; sister, Judy Monroe and her husband, George; and his niece, Amy Monroe. In the past few years, Steve was loved and cared for at his home by his wife; wonderful ?helpers' Linda Ward, Deborah Johnson, and Nicki Roberts; great friends like Tom Terry and Craig Roberts; great neighbors; a wonderful physician and friend, Bryan Nerren; and many others who loved him. His wisdom and laughter will be missed by all who knew him. In accordance with Steve?s wishes, a graveside service will be held Saturday, May 21, 2016 at 11:00 am at Monte Vista Memorial Park, in the Garden of Peace, with the Reverend Mark Gooden and the Reverend Art Joyce officiating. Following the interment, the family will receive visitors and friends at Munsey Memorial United Methodist, at the corner of Roan and Market Streets, in downtown Johnson City until 2:00 pm in the Fellowship Hall. Pallbearers will be Jim Moses, Scott Thompson, Jim Yetter, Dave Carr, Greg Lyon, and Vernon Scharer. Honorary pallbearers are: Tom Terry, Tom Baird, and Johnnie Holmes. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Munsey Memorial United Methodist Church.
