Ms. Susan Kay Carlson Vandeberg, age 67, 1106 Estate Drive, Johnson City, passed away Saturday in the Johnson City Medical Center. Ms. Vandeberg was a native of Fairfield, Iowa and was raised in Denver, Colorado. She was the daughter of the late Robert Carlson and Esther Carlson. In addition to her parents, her brother, Richard Carlson also preceded her in death. Ms. Vandeberg served as an employee of the Veterans Administration for 28 years and retired in 2006 as a Human Resources Specialist for the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center. Survivors include: two sons: Kevin Vandeberg and Keith Vandeberg and his wife Wendy; two grandchildren, Grey Vandeberg and Max Vandeberg. Susan was the wife of a military veteran and travelled extensively throughout Europe and the Pacific before retiring to the United States. Susan served as a member of Epsilon Sigma Alpha, an international service and philanthropic organization, since 1999. She was a member of the Johnson City chapter and served as its treasurer for many years. St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital has been ESAs international project since 1972. Susan was active in many fundraising events for St. Jude Hospital; she also prepared meals for the local Ronald McDonald House several times a year and volunteered at the Gray Fossil Site. Her love of travel was enhanced by ESA as she attended many conferences throughout the United States usually going before or staying after to see the sites around the conference area. Susan was also active in the Johnson City Senior Center enjoying line dancing and bus trips. She also enjoyed the peacefulness of Dixie Webbs Serenity Yoga classes. Susan was also an avid bowler as a member of the 'The World Travelers'? team. A memorial service for Ms. Susan Kay Vandeberg will be held at 6:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 12, 2011 in the Morris-Baker Funeral Home North Chapel with Rev. Vivian Franklin officiating. The family will receive friends following the service. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital, c/o Epsilon Sigma Alpha, 363 West Drake Rd, Ft.
