JOHNSON CITY - Sylvia Everhart Sams – born October 3, 1929, in Hawkins County, Tennessee, passed away on March 25, 2024, at the age of 94. Sylvia was Mom to her two sons Terry and Ricky and “Granny” to two granddaughters, Macey & Kylie. She is preceded in death by her brother Junior Everhart, sister Evelyn Everhart Cobble, her husband Kenneth Dale Sams, and her son Ricky Dale Sams.
Sylvia “Granny” was a faithful servant to her Lord Jesus Christ and was an active member of Downtown Christian Church where she also worked after her retirement from Gordon’s Furniture. She adored being Mom to her two boys and they became her world after her husband passed. Sylvia loved preparing home meals for her family and sharing her recipes with her daughter in law. She also loved to sing religious songs and taught them to grandchildren. Sylvia was a beautiful lady inside and out – and was a blessing to those who knew her – with her wisdom, kindness and her inner mischievousness. Sylvia loved to laugh and not take life too seriously - She believed that purses were meant for carrying candy. Sylvia had great insight on life’s sweetness!
She spent much of her time with her grandchildren and after they grew up she spent her time babysitting the family English Bulldog who kept her company and together they ate junkfood and watched soap operas and napped. Sylvia was an easy, peaceful and loving soul. She shared that grace just by being in the room with her.
There will be a graveside service at 10:00 am on Friday, March 29, 2024, at Monte Vista Memorial Park. Those attending are asked to please gather at the cemetery by 9:50 am.
Surviving members, Terry, Macey & Kylie would like to give special thanks for the loving care of Sylvia received from American House of Johnson City.
