Rev. Talbert 'Red'? Rutherford, age 84, of Erwin went to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, August 3, 2010 at the Erwin Center of Aging and Health. Mr. Rutherford was born on May 14, 1926 in Elsie Coal, Kentucky to the late Thomas and Texie Roland Rutherford. He was a veteran of the United States Army having served in World War II. He received the following decorations and citations, Army of Occupation Medal and the World War II Victory Medal. Mr. Rutherford was a member of the Back To The Bible Church. In addition to his parents, Mr. Rutherford was preceded in death by four brothers and sisters. Mr. Rutherford is survived by his wife of 48 years, Stella P. Rutherford of the home; one son, Talbert L. Rutherford of Erwin, TN; one brother, Gene Rutherford of Jonesborough, TN; and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7pm Thursday evening, August 5, 2010 in the Morris-Baker South Chapel. Funeral services for Mr. Rutherford will follow at 7pm with Pastor Rick Chapman officiating. Graveside services will be held Friday, August 6, 2010 at 11am in the Mountain Home National Cemetery with military honors being rendered by the Boone Dam VFW Post 4933 and the Tennessee National Guard. A funeral procession will leave the funeral home Friday morning at 10:30am. Pallbearers will be family and friends.
