Teresa Morrell Wright

Teresa Faye Morrell Wright, 68, of Bluff City, passed away on Wednesday, July 7, 2021, at the Johnson City Medical Center.

She was born in Bristol, Tennessee, a daughter of the late Thomas Eugene Morrell and Frances Della King Morrell.

Teresa had a passion for music that she turned into a career. For over 30 years, she taught music education across the Sullivan County school system in Blountville Elementary, Bluff City Elementary, East Cherokee Elementary, Valley Pike Elementary, and Emmett Elementary.

In addition to teaching music professionally, she also used her talents to play the organ and piano at her church, New Bethel Presbyterian in Piney Flats. She was a longtime member and had earned the title of Elder there; over the years she had also served as choir director and devoted much of her time to children’s ministry.

She had also been a member of The Eastern Star Bluff City Chapter #414, and would have earned her 50 year pin in August.

Teresa loved to spend time with her family. Whether it was watching I Love Lucy reruns, going out Shopping, or using her creative talents to engage others in crafting, no opportunity to spend time together was wasted. She was an avid reader, and used her spare time to enjoy a good book.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by: father-in-law, James “Sonny” Wright, sister-in-law, Barbara Hubble; and brother-in-law, Larry Davis.

Those surviving include: her husband of nearly 46 years, James C. Wright; children, Katie Wright and fiancée Gary Vaughn, and Matthew Wright; mother-in-law, June Fields; sisters-in-law, Margaret Davis and Loretta Wise; brother-in-law, Steve Wright and wife Tammy; as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends.

The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the staff of the Johnson City Medical Center ICU for their time and care.

The family of Teresa Wright will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Monday, July 12, 2021, at New Bethel Presbyterian Church in Piney Flats. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, July 13, 2021, also at New Bethel Presbyterian Church. A committal service will be conducted immediately following in the New Bethel Presbyterian Cemetery.
