Thelma Sevella Ledwell

Mrs. Thelma Sevella Silvers Ledwell, 88, of 124 John M. Reed Road, Limestone, died Tuesday, December 8, 2009 at the John M. Reed Nursing Home. She was a native of Yancey County, North Carolina, daughter of the late Tom and Mary Bailey Silvers. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 53 years, Dudley J. Ledwell in May of 1989 and a daughter, Sallie Edwards Singh in November of 2000. Thelma was a member of the First Baptist Church in Jonesborough. She always shared her strong faith and spiritual guidance with others. She loved nothing more than to hear and join in singing gospel hymns. She retired from the Johnson City Medical Center as a Certified Nursing Assistant. She also worked previously in nursing homes and was known for dedicating her time, love and energy for the care and wellbeing of others. In her free time she loved nothing more than to be outside digging in the dirt. Her green thumb produced beautiful flower gardens and fruitful vegetable gardens. She will be remembered for her tender touch, caring spirit and the hugs and kisses she so freely gave to everyone she met. Survivors include: two sons, Jewell Ledwell of Johnson City, John Ledwell of Greeneville; six daughters, DeAnna Dempsey Jilton of Johnson City, Cathie Ingram of Wake Forest, NC, Shirlee Dillard of Charlotte, NC, Barbara Harrington of Charlotte, NC, Mary Adam of Tampa, FL and Nell Nave of St. Petersburg, FL; twenty grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. A funeral service is scheduled for Thursday, December 10, 2009 at 8:00 p.m. in the South Chapel of the Morris - Baker Funeral Home, under the direction of Rev. Dean Presnell and Pastor Joel Cook. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until time of service at 8:00 p.m. A committal service will be conducted on Friday, December 11, 2009 at at 11:00 a.m. in the Fairveiw United Methodist Church Cemetery, 878 Hwy. 81 North, Jonesborough. Active pallbearers will be: John Ledwell, Shawn Ledwell, Eric Dempsey, Joseph Black, Travis Harrington and Mike Dempsey. Family and friends are asked to assemble at the funeral home to leave in procession by 10:15 a.m.
