Thomas Lee Slagle

Thomas Lee Slagle, age 80, went to be with the Lord Monday, October 11, 2010 in the Johnson City Medical Center. Mr. Slagle was born in Washington County, Tennessee, a son of the late Sam and Edith Pearl Laws Slagle. He was a retired Machine Operator from Harris-Tarkett with 42 years of service. Mr. Slagle was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and served as an ordained deacon since 1970. Mr. Slagle was preceded in death by his loving wife, Evelyn Johnson Slagle, one daughter, Barbara Chatman, one son, Terry Slagle, one brother, L.I. Slagle, two sisters, Frances Glass and Mary Ruth Tipton. Mr. Slagle is survived by one son, Randall Slagle and wife Linda; one daughter, Rhonda Willis; one son-in-law, Rev. Jim Chatman and wife Jane; three grandchildren, Michael Chatman, Mary Beth Leonard and husband Derrick and Briana Phillips; one great granddaughter, Katie Chatman; one brother, Harry E. Slagle and wife Kathleen; four sisters, Jackie Markland and husband Gene, Yvonne Cole, Lorena Campbell and husband Mickey and Tonya Bennett; and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm '?7:00 pm Thursday evening, October 14, 2010 in the Morris-Baker Funeral Home South Chapel. The funeral service will follow at 7:00 pm with Rev. Jim Chatman officiating. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 am Friday morning, October 15, 2010 in the Roselawn Memory Gardens. Pallbearers will be Derrick Leonard, Thomas Hyder, Larry Hoilman, Gary Taylor, Tom Willens and Larry Glaspie. Honorary pallbearers will be the men of Calvary Baptist Church. A funeral procession will leave the funeral home at 9:30 am Friday morning. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Calvary Baptist Church, 515 Hart Avenue, Johnson City, TN 37604. Morris-Baker Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 2001 Oakland Avenue, Johnson City, TN., 423-282-1521, is in charge of arrangements.
