Thomas McBrayer Bridges, 79, of Johnson City passed away suddenly Thursday, February 4, 2010 at the James H. Quillen VAMC at Mountain Home. Mr. Bridges was born on December 21, 1930 in Gainesville, Florida to the late Ernest and Maybelle Bellah Bridges. Mr. Bridges received a BA Degree in 1952 and a MA Degree in 1958 from the University of Florida. At the university he was a member of Theta Chi social fraternity and Phi Kappa Phi honorary. He was commissioned through the ROTC, and rose to the rank of Captain in the U.S. Air Force Reserve. In Johnson City he was a member of the Kings Mountain Post # 24 of the American Legion, Camp 1850 of the Sons of the Confederate Veterans, and the Trinity Assembly of God of which he was at one time Sunday School Superintendent. Survivors include: a sister Judith Booth and her husband Ray of Knoxville, TN; three dear nieces, Shannon Beal and her husband Dennis of Knoxville, Meredith Busic and her husband John of King George, VA, and Kerry Osborne and her husband John R. 'Randy'? of Corryton, TN; seven great-nephews and nieces also survive. The family of Thomas McBrayer Bridges will receive friends at Morris-Baker from 2 to 4 PM Sunday, February 7, 2010. A celebration service will be conducted at 6 PM Sunday at the Trinity Assembly of God, 617 University Parkway, Johnson City, TN. Pastor Edward Jefferies and Pastor Kenneth Jefferies will officiate. Active pallbearers will be members of the Adult Bible Class of Trinity and husbands of the nieces. The committal service will be conducted at Mountain Home National Cemetery at 1 PM Monday, February 08, 2010. Everyone will meet at the cemetery at 12:55 PM. Military honors will be accorded at the cemetery by Post # 3382 Veterans of Foreign Wars of Kingsport and soldiers from the Tennessee National Guard. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Trinity Assembly of God.
