Tilford Cooper

Tilford Cooper, 99, Johnson City, passed away Friday, May 17, 2019, at Community Living Center, Veterans Administration, Mountain Home, TN.
Mr. Cooper was a native of Chenoa, KY. Except for living in Salem, Virginia for 24 years, he had lived most of his life in Washington County.
He was a son of the late Joe S. and Matilda Martin Cooper, of North Carolina.
He was a member of Martindale Baptist church.
Mr. Cooper was an Army veteran of World War II, and had received the Purple Heart, Combat Infantryman’s Badge, Good Conduct Medal, Pre-Pearl Harbor ribbon, four battle stars and the ETO ribbon.
Mr. Cooper was a retired employee of Roanoke College, Salem, Virginia.
He was preceded in death by: his first wife, Elizabeth Corby Cooper, in 1959; his second wife, Mae Robinson Cooper, in 1990; two sisters, Pansy Jackson, of Johnson City, and Sarah Rogers, of Jonesborough; three brothers, Leeman Cooper, of Charlotte, NC, Cecil Cooper, of Johnson City, and Virgil Cooper, of Jonesborough.
Survivors include: on step-daughter, Betty Tester and her husband Jack, of Johnson City; two step-granddaughters, Tonita Ohman and her husband Paul, of Pensacola, FL, and Theresa Davies and her husband Rick, of Elizabethton; and two step-great grandchildren, Jack Ohman and his wife Calyn and Kimberly McCollim and her husband Matthew; and four step-great, great grandchildren, Carson and Kylie Ohman, Madelyn and Kaleb McCollim, all of Pensacola, FL.
The family of Tilford Cooper will receive friends from 1:30 PM until 2:30 PM Sunday, May 19, 2019, at Morris-Baker. The committal service will follow at 3:00 PM at Monte Vista Memorial Park, with Pastor Delbert Storie officiating. Family and friends are asked to meet at the cemetery by 2:50 PM.
There are no words to express the gratitude of the family for the wonderful, special love and care given to Mr. Cooper by all the doctors, nurses, and every employee involved at Community Living Center; how very, very special and appreciated.
