Tommie Joe Humphreys, 61, 614 Riverview Drive, Johnson City, died Tuesday, March 18, 2008 in the Johnson City Medical Center. Mr. Humphreys was a native of Johnson City who had lived all of his life in Johnson City. He was the son of the late CL and Hazel Penix Humphreys. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by one sister, Norma Humphreys; a special uncle, Wiley Humphreys. He loved doing paint and body work. He attended the Light House for Jesus Church. Survivors include: his wife, Sharon Cole Humphreys, of the home; one Daughter, Amy Whitaker and her husband Terry, of Piney Flats; one step son, Chad Cole and his daughter Melanie, of Johnson City; one brother, David Humphreys and his wife Bertha, of Johnson City; two grandsons, Dustin Miller, of Bluff City and Hunter Whitaker, of Piney Flats; special cousin, Brandy Humphreys, of Piney Flats; several nieces and nephews. The funeral service for Tommie Joe Humphreys will be conducted at 8 PM Thursday March 20, 2008 in the Morris-Baker South Chapel. Brother Bill Younce will officiate. The committal service will be conducted at 11 AM Friday in the Scalf Cemetery. Family and friends will meet at the funeral home at 10:15 AM to go in procession to the cemetery. Honorary pallbearers will be: Chad Cole and Dustin Miller. Active pallbearers will be: Terry Whitaker, Joey Thompson, Cory Cunningham, Michael Guinn and Jason Guinn. The family will receive friends in the funeral chapel from 6 to 8 PM Thursday prior to the service and other times at the residence of the daughter Amy Whitaker at 399 Whitaker Road, Piney Flats. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the American Heart Association, 208 Sunset Drive, Suite 521, Johnson City, Tn. 37601.
