Travis Bowlin Hunter, 30, of Johnson City died suddenly Saturday, May 28, 2011 due to complications from traumatic injuries sustained from a mountain bike accident in Crested Butte, CO. He is survived by his parents; Robert and Rita Hunter of Johnson City; his sister, Shannon Hunter McConville and her husband Chad, and his precious niece, Lilah Grace all of Chesterfield, VA; his aunt, Cora Lee Brackett and her husband Ted and cousin Faith all of Swannanoa, NC; cousins Cliff and McKinzie Bowlin of Russellville, TN; God Parents, Lee and Carolyn Shipley of Johnson City; very special friends, Patricia Jarrell and David McFarling, Chapel Hill, NC and his faithful beagle companion, Lilly. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, William and Annie Hunter, Swannanoa, NC; maternal grandparents, Henry and Juanita Bowlin , Russellville, TN ; and his beloved uncle, Michael Bowlin, Russellville. Travis was a graduate of Science Hill High School and East Tennessee State University. He was a member of Munsey Memorial United Methodist Church. He trusted in the Lord and never feared death ,rather, his choice was to live life to its fullest with a heart filled with joy. He enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid extreme skier, an accomplished fly fisherman ,rock climber, kayaker, mountain biker, hiker and camper. He chose to live in the most rugged part of the Rocky Mountains which led him to live in Crested Butte, CO where he was able to enjoy all the beauty of the wonderful mountains he loved so much. Travis was an athlete all his life and played baseball, basketball and his favorite, soccer. He was a member of the ETSF 80 Falcons Soccer Club, Science Hill High School Soccer Team and Lees-McRae College Soccer Team. He was the ultimate team player who gave his all anytime he stepped on the field and loved his band of brothers through thick or thin. The family will receive friends on Saturday, June 11, 2011 from 1:00 until 3:00 pm in the Christian Life Center of Munsey Memorial United Methodist Church followed by a Celebration of Life Service. A private family service will be held later that day. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to 'Crumley House'? , The Brain Injury Rehabilitation Center, 300 Urbana Rd., Limestone, TN 37681. Phone--423-257-3644.
