Travis Brown

Travis Brown, 84, of 2734 E. Oakland Avenue, Johnson City died Sunday, February 7, 2010 at his residence. Mr. Brown was a native of Limestone, TN and was a son of the late Clyde and Kate Barnes Brown. He was a 1958 graduate of ETSU with a Masters Degree in Chemistry. He retired in 1985 as a patent examiner with the United States Patent and Trademark Office in Arlington, VA. Mr. Brown was a member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during WW II. Mr. Brown was the author and publisher of two books, 'Historical First Patents'? in 1994 (the first United States patents for many everyday things) and 'Heaven Is By Invitation Only'? in 2003. Mr. Brown is preceded in death by: his parents, one brother Scott Brown and one sister June Flowers. Survivors include: his wife of fifty-four years, Maxine Kimery Brown of the home; one son, David and his wife Maureen Brown of Solon, Ohio; and two granddaughters, Corrine Brown and Cara Brown also of Solon, Ohio. The funeral service for Travis Brown will be conducted at 7 PM Tuesday, February 9, 2010 in the Morris-Baker South Chapel. Dr. Jim Richter will officiate. The committal service will be conducted at 10 AM Wednesday in the Monte Vista Memorial Park. Everyone will meet at the cemetery. Honorary Pallbearers will be David Brown, Argil Neal, Frank Broderick, Larry Crigger, Bill Stone, Paul Sercia and Ray Bowman. The family will receive friends at Morris-Baker from 5:30 to 7 PM Tuesday, prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorials be sent to the Westminster Presbyterian Church, Deacons Fund, 2343 Knob Creek Road, Johnson City, TN 37604 The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Comfort Keepers of Kingsport and Amedisys Hospice of Elizabethton for their care and concern for Mr. Brown.
