LTC Bobby Jack Sanders (Ret.), Piney Flats, died on June 30, 2014, in the Community Living Center at Mountain Home VA Medical Center. Although a highly decorated career Army officer (he was both a helicopter and fixed wing pilot), he first served his country as an Infantryman in the Korean War. He was, to those who knew him best, a warrior with a gentlemans heart. A sixth generation northeast Tennessean, he was born in Piney Flats on Christmas Day 1932, to Cleo and Sam Sanders. It was in that community where he attended school, met his wife of 63 years, Marjorie Smith Sanders, and returned home after his retirement. Throughout his life, he answered the call to service, whether that call came from his employers, community, or church. He is survived by: his wife, Marjorie; one son, Randy; a daughter, Lisa Sanders Fox; three grandchildren, Justin Fox, Kara Fox Martin, and Moss Sanders; one sister, Keitha Cross; and beloved nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends. The Sanders family will receive friends from 5 to 7 PM Wednesday, July 2, 2014 in Morris-Baker Funeral Home. Interment will be at Mountain Home National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers or food, the family requests that donations be made to: Coalition for Kids, Inc., PO Box 3156, Johnson City, TN 37602.
