Velma Gladys Greene

April 21, 1937 — October 8, 2018

Velma Gladys Taylor Greene, 81, of Johnson City, Tennessee, went to be with the Lord, Monday, October 8, 2018 after a courageous battle with lung cancer. She resided in Greeneville, FL for most of her life where she workd in her family-owned business, Greeneville Auto Parts. She returned to Johnson City in 2016. She loved all kinds of sports and fishing was her favorite past time. She loved being with people and all who knew her loved her in return. She loved to laugh and everyone enjoyed being around her. In addition to her parents, Lawrence and Ina Hicks Taylor, she is preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Ernest Greene. Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Randy Greene of Valdosta, GA; Beverly Runkle and her husband, William, of Tallahassee, FL; and Lynn Hickerson and her husband, Ron, of Kennan, WI; two stepchildren, Barbara Paynter of Tallahassee, FL; and Johnny Greene and wife, Marie of PA; six sisters, Betty Hancock and husband, Dennis; Pat Hixson, Frankie Drayne and husband, Eddie; Janice Walker and husband, Beryl; Linda Lewis and husband, Paul; Gail Taylor, and one brother, Lester Taylor and wife Brenda; as well as many grandchildren, great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the staff at Cornerstone Village for their excellent care and loving support throughout Velma?s illness. Velma grew to love the staff like a second family. The family will receive friends on Friday, October 12, 2018 at Morris-Baker Funeral Home from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm. A funeral service is scheduled for 7:00 pm in the Oak Chapel under the direction of Chaplain Palma Bennett. A committal service will be conducted on Saturday, October 13, 2018 at 11:00 am at Roselawn Memory Gardens. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Family and friends are asked to assemble at the cemetery by 10:50 am.
