Velma Louise Brown

June 18, 1917 — March 21, 2011

Velma Louise Brown, age 93, of Piney Flats passed away on Monday, March 21, 2011 in the Johnson City Medical Center. Mrs. Brown was born in Washington County, Tennessee, a daughter of the late Weaver Marvin Lawson and Eliza Floretta Dyer Lawson. She was a member of Austin Springs United Methodist Church and loved crocheting, quilting, and working puzzle books. Mrs. Brown was preceded in death by her first husband, Johnny Adams, and her second husband, Warren Brown; one son, Anthony Brown; one sister, Virginia Lawson; two brothers, Marvin Lawson, and Bud Lawson; one son-in-law, Floyd Sartain; and one grandson, Robbie Adams. She is survived by three daughters, Jean Sartain, Penny Black, and Melody Hicks, all of Piney Flats, TN; four sons, Willie Adams and wife Wendy, of Johnson City, Joe Adams and wife Joann, of Hampton, TN, Johnny Adams, of Jonesborough, TN, and Gary Brown, of Piney Flats, TN; several grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends. The family will receive friends Wednesday, March 23, 2011 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm in the Morris-Baker Funeral Home North Chapel. The funeral service will follow at 8:00 pm in the Morris-Baker Funeral Home North Chapel with Rev. Estel Williams officiating. Graveside services will be held at 3:00 pm Thursday, March 24, 2011 in the Monte Vista Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be family and friends. A funeral procession will leave the funeral home at 2:45pm on Thursday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Sullivan County Animal Shelter, 380 Massengill Road, Blountville, TN 37617.
