Vernon Chester Walker, Sr. 72, of Johnson City, died Monday, July 23, 2012 at the Continuum Courtyard. He was a native of Riceville, TN, son of the late Chester Floyd and Jewell Nina Colloms Walker. Vernon had been a salesperson in the clothing industry. He had served in the U. S. Army Reserves. His loves were any University of Tennessee sport especially football and the Atlanta Braves baseball team, most important however was any activity of his grandchildren. In addition to his parents, his wife Sylvia Wood Walker preceded him in death in 2010. Survivors include: his son and daughter-in-law, Vernon C. Walker, Jr. and Amanda of Kingsport; his daughter and son-in-law, Wendy Holden and Tim of Johnson City; a brother and sister-in-law, David and Pat Walker of Ooltewah and sister and brother-in-law, Carol and Jim Hodsden of Calhoun; his grandchildren, Lauren Holden, Tanner Holden, Cameron Walker and Connor Walker. A memorial service is scheduled for Friday, July 27, 2012 at 2:00 pm in the North Chapel of the Morris '? Baker Funeral Home under the direction of Chaplain Dwight MacPherson. The family will receive friends from 12:00 pm until time of service at 2:00 pm. The family would like to express special thanks to Dr. David Moulton for his many years of care and both the staffs of the Lakebridge Health Care Center and the Continuum Courtyard.
