Vernon Ray “Snuffy” Humphrey, age 69, of Piney Flats, Tennessee, passed away suddenly on June 29, 2024, due to a motorcycle accident.
“Snuffy” was born on January 3, 1955, at home, and was a Piney Flats resident most of his life. He was a graduate of Daniel Boone High School. He was then employed by Kennametal, where he would retire.
He loved to fish and hunt, but most of all, he loved teaching his grandchildren how to do those things. He was the very definition of “a good ole boy” and made friends wherever he went.
He raised two strong women and had more “grandchildren” than any man in the world, because once you met him, he instantly became your “Papaw.”
“Snuffy” was preceded in death by: the love of his life and wife, Sherry Marie Vanhoy Humphrey; mother, Margaret Lucille Feathers Humphrey; father, Clarence Ross “Tip” Humphrey; and one brother, Corporal Lawrence James Humphrey.
Those remaining to cherish his memory include: his two daughters, Amber Rhea Humphrey, of Johnson City, Tennessee and Dreama Marie Cochran, of Bristol, Tennessee; one granddaughter, Mikaila Marie Cochran; four grandsons, Phillip Lee Allen III, Jordan Ray Allen, Austin Cochran, and Hunter Lee Casey; one great-granddaughter, Dolly Kate Elizabeth Light; three brothers, Clarence Ross “Mig” Humphrey, Jr., William “Bill” Edgar Humphrey, and David “Robert” "Bo" Humphrey; and two sisters, Dorothy “Crick” White and Margaret Ann "Pete" Minga. He also leaves behind lifelong friend, Charlie, several nieces, nephews, and close friends, who loved him dearly.
The family will receive friends from 9:00 am to 11:00 am on Friday, July 5, 2024, at Morris-Baker Funeral Home The funeral service will begin following the visitation at 11:00 am, with Pastor Donnie Humphrey officiating.
