Viola Pierce Laws

March 29, 1925 — October 4, 2015

Viola ?Blackie' Pierce Laws, 90, of Johnson City, passed away Sunday, October 4, 2015 at her residence. Mrs. Laws was a native of Exeter, VA who had lived most of her life in the Johnson City area. She was a daughter of the late Henry and Nellie White Pierce. Mrs. Laws was a member of Piney Grove Free Will Baptist Church. She loved cooking and working in her flower garden, both of which she was wonderful at. She also loved helping people and was a private caregiver for over 20 years. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John C. Laws; three brothers; and Powell and Sandy Shoun, the couple who raised Viola after her own mother?s untimely death when she was three years old. Survivors include: her daughter and son-in-law, Marlene and Robert Simpson of Mishawaka, IN; two grandchildren, Keith McIntyre and his wife Trina of Johnson City and Sherie Koger and her husband Mitch of Arlington, TX; three great grandchildren, Robert William McIntyre and his wife Crystal, Kelsie Koger, and Courtney Koger; two great great grandsons, Dominic and Brayden McIntyre; sister, Oma Markland of Michigan; step great granddaughter, Debbie Owens and her husband Glen; three step great great grandchildren, Chelsey Owens, Patrick Owens, and Brye Doss; and several half brothers and half sisters. The family of Viola Laws will receive friends from 6 pm to 8 pm Monday, October 12, 2015 in the Morris-Baker Dogwood Chapel. A funeral service will follow at 8 pm Monday in the chapel under the direction of Rev. Paul Crowe. The committal service is scheduled for 11 am Tuesday, October 13, 2015 in Monte Vista Memorial Park. Minister, family, and friends are requested to meet at Morris-Baker by 10:30 am Tuesday to go in procession to the cemetery. Pallbearers will be selected from family. A special thank you and God?s blessing to Louise Justvig and Trina McIntyre for their support and care for Blackie over the past four years during her illness. The family also wishes to extend a special thank you to Mountain States Hospice for their loving and compassionate care. God Bless, and keep up the good work you all do.
