Virgil Smith, 78, of 106 Dyer Street, Johnson City died Saturday, December 12, 2009 in the James H. Quillen Veterans Affairs Medical Center at Mountain Home, Tennessee. Mr. Smith was a native and lifelong resident of Johnson City and a son of the late Charles Frank and Sreptha Howell Smith. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War. Mr. Smith was an electrician in appliance repair. He is preceded in death by his wife June Depew Smith in 2004; three sisters, Sarah Smith Johnson, Irene Smith Carper and Florence Smith Story; seven brothers, Walter P. Smith, Bill Willard Smith, Earl Smith, Rev. John Smith, Rev. David Smith, and two infant brothers. Survivors include: one brother, Leonard and his wife Delores Smith of Limestone, TN; several nieces and nephews also survive. The funeral service for Virgil Smith will be conducted at 7 PM Tuesday, December 15, 2009 in the Morris-Baker North Chapel. Rev. Jerry Cornett will officiate. The graveside service will be conducted at 1 P.M. Wednesday in the Mountain Home National Cemetery. Full Military Honors will be accorded at the graveside by the Boone Dam VFW and soldiers from the Tennessee National Guard. The family will receive friends at Morris-Baker from 6 to 7 PM Tuesday prior to the service.
