Virginia Brock Laws

September 2, 1922 — November 27, 2015

Virginia Brock Laws, 93, Johnson City, passed away at her home on Friday November, 27, 2015 surrounded by her family. Virginia moved to Johnson City in the late 1950s with her first husband Warren Cecil Brock who preceded her in death in 1981 after forty years of marriage. They raised their four daughters in Johnson City often commenting on finding the perfect community for their family. She was born in Ocoee, TN on September 2, 1922. Her parents Minnie Harmon Dixon and James Bartley Dixon were farmers. She would often tell stories of picking cotton and following her older brothers in the field behind a mule. She decided farm life was not for her and adapted quite well to the city. Virginia spent many years as a volunteer Gray Lady at Memorial Hospital and later at the Johnson City Medical Center. She also worked in retail sales at Parks Belks where she loved talking with customers and buying the latest in fashions. Virginia was a beautiful person both inside and out and set high standards for her girls. Following the death of her first husband, Virginia found happiness with her second husband Lonnie G. Laws who preceded her in death in 2014. They were married for thirty-one years and created a wonderful family life for their five daughters. Virginia Brock Laws is survived by her daughters, Cecilia Bulla, Beverly Vaughan, Jenny Brock and husband Michael Ray, Melita Warner and husband Terry, and stepdaughter Dianne Laws Everhart and husband Carter. She was a special Nana to her seven grandchildren Steven Bulla, Robbie Bulla, Christy Buck, Donovan Sturgill, Jennifer Mrozek, Devan Kerly and Logan Warner, ten great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. She was also known as Nana to a large extended family of friends who loved her well. Virginia was a faithful member of Unaka Avenue Baptist Church for over fifty years and loved her Sunday School class.
