Virginia Elizabeth Garman

November 17, 1921 — January 1, 2011

Virginia Elizabeth Christian Garman, 89, of Johnson City, died Saturday, January 1, 2011 at the Lakebridge Healthcare Center. She was a native of Hawkins County, daughter of the late James Wiley and Lucy Ella Hutchins Christian. She was a winding operator for Burlington Mills for 17 years. Virginia was a member of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church. She was a part of the Holston Conference of Childrens Ministries for 12 years. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by: her husband, Rev. William D. Garman in 2009; four sisters, Rita Davis, Ina Francisco, Gladys Gaddis and Evelyn H. Christian; two brothers, Ralph and Lyle Christian. Virginia was known for her caring spirit, her hospitality in her home and her handmade quilts. Her love of children was evident in each church that she Rev. W. D. served. Survivors include: two foster children, Bobby Baker of Blountville and Judy Baker Chandler of Tunnel Hill, GA; several nieces and nephews. A funeral service is scheduled for Sunday, January 2, 2011 at 7:00 p.m. in the North Chapel of the Morris '? Baker Funeral Home and Cremation Services, under the direction of Rev. Dr. James Bennett and Rev. Jeremy Dykes. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until time of service at 7:00 p.m. A committal service will be conducted on Monday, January 3, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. in the Monte Vista Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be her nephews. Family and friends are asked to assemble at the cemetery. The family would like to express thanks to the Lakebridge Healthcare staff for their loving care and the many friends who made so many faithful visits. Memorials may be made to the Holston United Methodist Home for Children, 404 Holston Drive, Greenville, TN 37743.
