Virginia Humphrey

July 22, 1933 — January 16, 2016

Mrs. Virginia Humphrey, 82, of Johnson City, TN celebrated a glorious homecoming Saturday, January 16, 2016, at NHC HealthCare surrounded by her three children. Virginia was a lifelong resident of Johnson City. She was the daughter of the late Reverend Elmer and Bessie White. Mrs. Humphrey was a founding member of River of Life Baptist Church. She was a very active member of the women?s ministry. She was affectionately known as ?Ms. Jenny'. She spent the majority of her life taking care of others as a private sitter. She touched the lives of all who met her. In addition to her parents, Jenny was preceded in death by her loving husband, Raymond Humphrey; two special sisters, Ruth Miller and Doris Caldwell; and a special sister-in-law, Thelma White. Survivors include her pastor and son, Donnie Humphrey and his wife Sharon; two daughters, Sandra Fair and her husband Danny and Teresa Hyatt; and three brothers whom she loved dearly, Charles White and his wife Trella, David White and his wife Pat, and Paul White and his wife Barbara. She was so blessed to have you all, many thanks for all you did for her. Ms. Jenny had a special love for her grandchildren and great grandchildren: April, Mike, Bryson, and Chloe Carver; Shanna, Billy, Amelia, and Jenni Grace Pennington; Adam and Courtney Fair; Andrea, Shaffon, and Selah Finley; Matthew, Holly, Anna, Noah, and Conor Humphrey; and Brian and Sara Hyatt. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the nurses and staff of the 5400 Wing and staff of NHC HealthCare. Also, thank you to the doctors who took such great care of her during her illness, and to her two special therapists. We would also like to thank her prayer partners, whom she loved and cherished. Thanks to all who visited and brought food. The family of Mrs. Virginia Humphrey will receive friends from 5 pm to 7 pm Tuesday, January 19, 2016 in River of Life Baptist Church, Piney Flats. The funeral will follow at 7 pm Tuesday under the direction of Pastor Donnie Humphrey, Pastor Ancel Presnell, Jr., Pastor Randy Bennett, and Pastor Richard Kelly. Teresa Hyatt and the River of Life Singers will provide special music. A committal service is scheduled for 1 pm Wednesday, January 20, 2016 in Monte Vista Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Adam Fair, Brian Hyatt, Matthew Humphrey, Mike Carver, Shaffon Finley, Billy Pennington, and Danny Fair. Honorary pallbearers will be Deacons of River of Life Baptist Church. Family and friends are requested to meet at Morris-Baker by 12:30 pm Wednesday to go in procession to the cemetery.
