Virginia Roberts Saylor, age 98, formerly of 489 Woodlyn Avenue, Johnson City, died Monday, October 08, 2007, at Appalachian Christian Village. On October 26th, Mrs. Saylor would have been 99 years old. Mrs. Saylor was a native of Alvarado, Virginia, and had lived in Johnson City since her childhood. She was the daughter of the late Thomas F. Roberts and the late Matilda Caroline Sweet Roberts. Mrs. Saylor was a loving and devoted mother to her five children and her children appreciate the fact that their mother was always guiding them into the Christian faith. She often sang about and talked about going to heaven. Her favorite songs to sing were 'Ill Fly Away'? and 'When the Roll is Called Up Yonder.'? The children are comforted by their belief that she is now in heaven where she had longed to be. When younger, Mrs. Saylor was a Sunday School teacher, a member of the Womens Missionary Union and an active participant in the Barnes Home Demonstration Club. The family would like to express their gratitude to Dr. Kevin Sweet and Melissa Leake of Johnson City Internal Medicine and to the caregivers, Juanita Dooley and Angie Nelson for the exceptional care given to Mrs. Saylor. Mrs. Saylor was preceded in death by her husband, Hugh G. Saylor; a daughter, Helen S. White Rose and a son, Harold Saylor; eight brothers and one sister. She is survived by a daughter, Carolyn Holly of Johnson City; two sons, Charles P. Saylor and William Saylor, both of Charlotte, North Carolina; 10 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services for Mrs. Saylor will be held Wednesday, October 10th at 2:00 PM at Unaka Avenue Baptist Church. Dr. Wayne Emery and Dr. Jack Parrott will officiate. The family will receive friends at the church from noon until 2:00 PM service time. Burial will be Thursday at 10:00 AM at Monte Vista Memorial Park. Friends and family are invited to meet at Morris-Baker Thursday at 9:30 AM to go in procession to the cemetery.
