Virginia ?Ruth' Clay, 88, of Johnson City, died on Saturday, May 30, 2015 at the Johnson City Medical Center. She was a native of Washington County and daughter of the late Henry and Ina Pearl Bishop Miller. Ruth was a Momma and Mammaw first in her life and was of the Baptist faith. In addition to her parents, her husband Sam King Clay; two children, Jimmy Clay and Regenia Chalfin; two brothers, R. J. and Harry Miller; three sisters, Jackie Hughes, Jean Fugate and Geraldine Smith preceded her in death. Survivors include: two sons, Larry Clay, Unicoi and Terry Clay, Johnson City; three daughters, Chima Lawson, Johnson City, Linda Miller, Jonesborough and Shelby Silvers, Johnson City; a brother, Ralph Miller, Jonesborough; a sister, Nadine Painter, Jonesborough; several grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be conducted on Tuesday, June 2, 2015 at the Washington County Memory Gardens at 2:00pm under the direction of Rev. Mike Richards. Active pallbearers will be her grandsons. Family and friends are asked to assemble at the cemetery by 1:45pm for the service. The family would like to thank the Dr?s and staff of the second floor at the JCMC.
