Virginia Ruth Fields

January 23, 1925 — February 5, 2016

Virginia Ruth Fields, 91, of Johnson City, died at Lakebridge Health Care Center. She was a native of Maryville, daughter of the late Leonard and Flora Maples West. Virginia was a retired employee of the James H. Quillen Veteran Affairs Medical Center, building and management services. She was a member of the Freedom Road Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two husbands, David Whaley and Joseph E. Fields; three sons, Ronnie, Wayne and Jack Whaley; three brothers, Bennie, Harold and Paul West. Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Raymond Perkinson, of Johnson City, Patsy ?Susie' and Rob Vacek of Lolo, MT; two sons, Gary and Michael Whaley both of Johnson City; a daughter-in-law, Martha Whaley of Johnson City; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Luke and Sue West of Gray and Theodore ?Ted' West of Augusta, GA; two sisters, Florence White of Nashville and Dorotha Dykes of Jonesborough; nineteen grandchildren; twenty three great grandchildren; three step-children, Cathy Hartley, Larry Conway and Jerry Conway; several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, February 9, 2016 at 11:00 am until 12:30pm at Morris-Baker Funeral Home in the Dogwood Chapel. A funeral service will follow at 12:30 pm under the direction of Rev. Lenny Smith. A committal service will be conducted at Mountain Home National Cemetery at 1:45pm. Active pallbearers will be: James, Mark and Raymond Perkinson, Larry and Jerry Conway, Brian Showl, Terry Phillips, Jr. and Larry Dean Kaiser. Honorary pallbearers will be: Freedom Road Baptist Church, Luke, Ted and Mike West, Mike and Gary Whaley, Carroll and Bobby Hartley, Reggie Gardner and James Matthew Perkinson. Memorials may be made to: St. Jude Children?s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or DAV Washington County Chapter #9, 409 E. Market Street, Johnson City, TN 37601.
