Wesley Don Miller, Johnson City, passed away November 15, 2019 at Cornerstone Village Nursing Home from Alzheimer’s disease. He was 93 years old.
Wes was born in Chicago, Illinois on July 3, 1926. After serving in the Pacific Theater during World War II, Wes attended Tulane University through the GI Bill. He graduated with a degree in Civil Engineering and was employed by Great Lakes Carbon Corporation his entire career, which took him to many states and countries.
Wes loved his job, but family was his true love. He was gone for periods of time with his job, but he more than made up for it when he was home. He brought the family along during summers when possible. While they were by no means exotic places, it allowed the family to be together.
Wes cherished his wife, Belle. After retirement, they spent their time travelling, visiting family and playing golf. He took care of Belle during her battle with dementia.
Wes was a member of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church.
Wes had a great sense of humor. He told many stories and most of his children and grandchildren were convinced that he was a Five Star General, and that he walked to school uphill both ways in ten feet of snow. He insisted brown cows produced chocolate milk, and if you whistled too long you would catch flies in your mouth.
Wes was predeceased by: his parents; several siblings; his son, Joe; and his beloved wife, Belle.
Survivors include: his sister, Barbara Walsh; brother, Jerry Miller; daughter, Saundra Keever (Kenneth); daughter, Laura Cappetta (Sandi); son, Stephen Miller (Bobbi); daughter, Susan Wilson (Steven); daughter, Arlene Reading (Steven); daughter, Diane Pike (William); grandchildren, Yvette, Tracy Carol, Erica, Brian, Glenn, Jonathan, Jeffery, Emily, Grace, Meghan and Jacob; and many great grandchildren.
Wes was a gem and will truly be missed by everyone who knew him.
The family will be accepting visitors to celebrate Wes’s life on November 29, 2019 at the Miller residence from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. There will be a graveside service at Forest Hills Cemetery in Morganton, NC on November 30, 2109 at 10:30 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Alzheimer’s Association, alz.org/donate.
