William R. “Bill” Smith, age 80, of Johnson City, passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by his family, on October 16, 2019.
He was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Giles Smith of Lebanon, Virginia, where he was born.
Bill retired from Eastman Chemical Company in 1997. He was a member of Unaka Avenue Baptist Church and the Good News Sunday School Class.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by four brothers, Jack, Charlie, Bruce and Banner Smith; as well as two sisters, Clara and Helen Barton.
He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Rebecca Fuller Smith; two daughters, Stephanie Ledford and husband Rick Ledford, Jennifer Colyar and husband Dr. Allan Colyar; four grandchildren, Garrick and Gavin Ledford, Grace and Allison Colyar.
He is also survived by one brother, Buck Smith and wife Gaynell; two sisters, Lucy Barton and Nada Blevins; sister-in-law, Virginia Fuller; and several nieces and nephews.
The family requests the honor of your presence as we celebrate the Christian life of Bill Smith on Saturday, October 19, 2019, at Morris-Baker Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM, conducted by Chaplain Steven Spell. A committal service will follow at 3:00 PM at Monte Vista Memorial Park, led by Deacon Jerry Lambert. Friends are family are asked to meet at Morris-Baker Funeral Home by 2:45 PM to go in procession.
Pallbearers will be Randy Smith, Bill Fuller, Jason Fuller, Dr. Allan Colyar, Rick Ledford, Garrick Ledford and Gavin Ledford. Honorary pallbearers to be the Good News Sunday School Class.
The family would like to offer a special thanks to Amedisys Hospice, (Vanessa Fletcher, RN., Lee Mounts and Michelle, Vivian, and Chaplain Steven Spell).
Also, special thanks to Home Instead (Jane and Wendy), and to Danielle Stevens. Thank you to our deacon, Jerry Lambert, the Good News Sunday School Class, and our church family.
