William C. Kirkland, 67, Johnson City, passed away Monday, February 20, 2017 at Wexford House in Kingsport. Mr. Kirkland was born in Americus, GA to the late Travis and Mary Virginia Smith Kirkland. Mr. Kirkland was a veteran of the U.S. Army during the Vietnam conflict. He was stationed in Germany and was a Captain Quarter Master Officer. He taught math and science at Thomson High School in Thomson, GA. Mr. Kirkland was of the Mormon faith and was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Johnson City. He was a history buff, and especially loved the history of WWII. Mr. Kirkland was very loved and will be missed dearly by his family and friends. The family of Mr. Kirkland would like to give a special thank you to Wexford House. In addition to his parents, Mr. Kirkland was preceded in death by: one brother, Tommy Kirkland. Left to cherish his memory are: five children, Jennifer Blevins, Ashley Kirkland, Jonathan Kirkland and his wife Cathy, Nathan Kirkland, and Heather Johnson; 11 grandchildren, Blake, Andy, Toby, DeeDee, Lilly, Damon, Aaliyah, Jade, Nyla, Logan, and Rebecca; three brothers, Travis P. Kirkland, Dr. James R. Kirkland, and Barney Z. Kirkland; special nieces and nephews, Anastasia Bates, Ashton Kirkland, Cameron Kirkland, and Rhiannon Cantor; and several other nieces and nephews. The family of William Kirkland will receive friends from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM Sunday, February 26, 2017 at Morris-Baker. The funeral will be at 11:00 AM on Monday, February 27, 2017. Family and friends will go in procession to Monte Vista Memorial Park immediately following the funeral for 12:00 PM graveside services. Boone Dam VFW Post #4933 will be providing military honors.
