Micah 6:8 Mr. William Griffin Donaldson, Sr., 87, of Johnson City, went home to be with the Lord and join his beloved wife, Verna, on September 18, 2014, at the Mountain Home VA Hospice Unit. Mr. Donaldson was a native of Valdosta, Georgia. He was the son of the late Henry Clyde Donaldson and Pearl Parker Donaldson. He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Verna; three sisters, Mildred Donaldson Cato, Clyde Donaldson Plair, Joyce Donaldson Catoe, and one brother, Wesley Donaldson. Mr. Donaldson was a proud veteran of the United States Navy. Mr. Donaldson was employed as a manager of S. H. Kress for over 30 years and retired from T G & Y Stores. Mr. Donaldson was an active member of Trinity Baptist church and the Challengers Sunday School Class. He loved children and delighted in passing out candy every Sunday. Mr. Donaldson had a passion and calling for visiting the sick, shut-in, and needy and devoted his retirement years to this mission. For many years, he and his wife Verna were volunteers in the waiting room of Johnson City Medical Centers ICU. Survivors include: two sons, Bill Donaldson, Jr. and his wife Trish of Johnson City and Herb Donaldson and his wife Cristi of Johnson City; three grandchildren, Paige Donaldson, Nashville, Tennessee, Ashley Watson Yoakley and her husband Gene of Asheville, North Carolina and Padget Watson of Los Angeles, California; one great-grandchild Isabella Ann-Laren Yoakley. The family of Mr. William G. Donaldson, Sr. will receive friends from 5 to 7 PM Sunday, September 21, 2014, at Trinity Baptist Church. The funeral service will follow with Dr. Mark Harrod and Rev. Robert English officiating. The graveside committal service will be conducted at 2 PM Monday, in the Washington County Memory Gardens. Active pallbearers will be the Deacons at Trinity Baptist Church. Ministers, family and friends are requested to meet at the funeral home by 1:15 PM Monday to go in procession to the cemetery. The family is grateful to all who have called, sent cards, visited and prayed for Mr. Donaldson over the past year. In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorial contributions be made to the Trinity Baptist Building Fund, 260 Headtown Road, Jonesborough, TN 37659.
