William Hardin Casey

William Hardin Casey ('Bill'?) passed away at his home in Johnson City on Tuesday, May 18, 2010. Bill was born on October 14, 1939 in Boone, NC and had resided in Kingsport, TN in his youth. He was the son of William T. and Velma Brown Casey, both deceased.In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by a son, Michael Casey, in 2000. Survivors include his wife, Margaret, daughter, Mary Terry (Chris) of Johnson City, daughter, Chris Moore of Jacksonville, FL, daughter, Sharon Casey of Port Charlotte, FL, sister, Judy Widener (Jim) of Johnson City, and brother, James S. Casey (Sabrina) of Limestone. He is also survived by six grandchildren: Matthew Sorgman, Ashley Sorgman, Scott Terrik, James Casey, Will Terry and Michael Terry, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.Bill was a military veteran, first serving with the U.S. Army in the 101st Airborne Division and later in the U.S. Navy where he completed his 27 year career. While in the Navy he received the Vietnam Service Medal with one bronze star, the National Defense Service Metal, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, and numerous Good Conduct Awards. Bill loved his country and considered the opportunity to serve as lifes highest honor. He retired from the U. S. Navy with the rank of Chief Petty Officer. While in the Navy Bill was offered the opportunity to complete his education and did so, completing both a Bachelor and Masters degree from Golden State University. He later enrolled at ETSU in the Bluegrass program and enjoyed playing with his friends and fellow students at the Kosher Pickle Deli, which he and Margaret operate. He was an avid motorcyclist and loved cruising the East Tennessee and Western North Carolina mountains with his close friends. Visitation will be on Thursday, May 20, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Morris '? Baker Funeral Home on Oakland Ave. in Johnson City. Interment and services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, May 21, at Mountain Home National Cemetery in Johnson City. Family and friends will meet at the funeral home for a procession to the cemetery by 9:30 am on Friday. Active pallbearers will be: Mike Sanford, George Bottcher, Sam Hite, Chris Terry, Jim Woods, Buford Neal, Marion Dunn and Jim Widener. Honorary pallbearers will be Nathan Matthews, Tim White, Niles Onks, Mike Martin and all of Bills Saturday pickin friends from the Kosher Pickle. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Christian Motorcyclist Association, PO Box 9, Hatfield, AR designated for the 'Run for the Son'? ministry.
