Wilma D. Carpenter

August 14, 1935 — January 16, 2016

Wilma Carpenter, 80, of Johnson City, passed away Saturday, January 16, 2016 in her home. Wilma was a native of Washington County. She was a daughter of the late Lela Tyree and Paul Jones. Wilma joined the church when she was 15 years old. She spent 18 years as treasurer of the Johnson City Church of the Nazarene and 20 years as treasurer at Harmon Memorial Church of the Nazarene. She was a member of First Church of the Nazarene for 61 years and was a current member of Philadelphia Church of the Nazarene. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Carpenter; brothers, Bud and Larry Widener; sister, Peggy Widener White; aunts, Marie Tipton and Vivian Whittaker. Survivors include her special friends, Teresa and Ashley Garn. Visitation will be 5 pm to 7 pm Tuesday, January 19, 2016 in the Morris-Baker Dogwood Chapel. The funeral will follow at 7 pm Tuesday under the direction of Pastor Lowell Bowens. A committal is scheduled for 11 am Wednesday, January 20, 2016 in Monte Vista Memorial Park. Family and friends are requested to meet at Morris-Baker by 10:30 am Wednesday to go in procession to the cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to Philadelphia Church of the Nazarene, 200 Walters Rd., Greeneville, TN 37743.
